Accessibility statement

How this site is built to be usable by everyone, what we have checked, and where it still falls short.

Updated 12 September 2026

The standard we work to

We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who rely on assistive technology, the keyboard, zoom and reflow, reduced-motion settings or other access features.

Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA for every public page. That is the standard we build to and test against. It is not a claim that every page and feature meets it today; the gaps we know about are listed below.

What this statement covers

The public LION Specialty website, on the pages where this statement is published. It does not cover third-party websites and services linked from the site, including Calendly and Kit, or documents we send separately by email.

What is in place

  • Text contrast is measured at 4.5 to 1 or better on every text and background pair, including text on the dark bands.
  • Links and buttons are at least 44 pixels tall on phone layouts, so they can be hit with a thumb.
  • Keyboard focus is visible on every link and button, with a ring designed for the site rather than the browser default.
  • A skip link at the start of each page lets keyboard users move past the navigation to the content.
  • Each page has one main heading, headings in order below it, and landmarks for navigation, main content and footer.
  • Links that open in a new tab say so to screen readers before they open.
  • The menu button on phones reports whether the menu is open, and Escape closes it and returns focus to the button. The questions on the home page expand and collapse as native disclosures.
  • The charts on the home page carry written descriptions of what they show.
  • Motion is kept small. If your device asks for reduced motion, movement is removed and only short fades remain.
  • No video or audio plays automatically, and nothing flashes.
  • Pages hold without sideways scrolling at every width from 320 pixels up, which covers a phone with text enlarged.

How we tested

On 11 September 2026 we reviewed every public page in Chrome at phone, tablet and desktop widths from 320 to 1,440 pixels. The review covered keyboard-only navigation, automated accessibility checks, and contrast measured in the code rather than judged by eye.

On 12 September 2026 we reviewed the accessibility tree of every public page in Chrome: the names, roles, states and reading order that screen readers work from. Every image is named or marked decorative, every link and button is named, headings run in order, landmarks are present, and the two drawn charts on the home page carry written descriptions.

Both reviews were internal, not an independent accessibility audit, and neither involved listening to the pages through VoiceOver or NVDA. This statement will be updated when that is done and when material improvements are released.

Known limits

  • Chart data. The charts on the home page are images with a written summary, not data tables. The individual figures cannot be read cell by cell.
  • Changing headline. One word in the home page headline changes every four seconds. It pauses under the mouse and stays still if your device asks for reduced motion, but it cannot yet be paused from the keyboard.
  • Third-party services. Booking runs on Calendly and Brief subscriptions run on Kit. Those pages are theirs, with their own accessibility practices.
  • Emailed documents. Documents we send by email, such as assessment findings, are outside the scope of this statement. Ask and we will provide an alternative format where we reasonably can.

Ask for help or an alternative format

If any part of this site is hard to use, you hit a barrier, or you need material in another format, email info@lionspecialty.com. If you can, tell us:

  • The page, document or feature involved.
  • What you were trying to do.
  • What went wrong.
  • The format or accommodation that would work best for you.

We will acknowledge your message within two business days and aim to give a substantive answer, or an accessible alternative, within ten business days. If it will take longer, we will tell you why and keep you updated.

Keeping this current

Accessibility is part of how the site is designed, written and released. This statement is reviewed when the site changes materially, when further testing is completed, and whenever a reported barrier calls for an update. Suggestions go to the same address: info@lionspecialty.com.
